The Holywood Reporter is sponsoring an interesting event this week entitled the Hollywood and Games Summit where producers and directors from film and television are gathering with game producers and directors in order to find new ways to excel in the world of "transmedia". For two days directors and designers from UbiSoft, LucasArts, EA and game development stars are up on stage with traditional media stars such as Clive Barker and writers/producers of Heroes, Lost and Transformers to discuss the nexus of game worlds and traditional media production and distribution.

Clive Barker is new to the game design world but has taken to it like a bloodbath in a first person shooter.  “I want to be part of the design, sending drawings back and forth,” stated Clive in his raspy, slightly uncomfortable wheeze.  “Obviously we were creating environments, characters.  This is an area of work where artists of every kind have huge potential...it's a wonderful playground and we've just begun.”

The Hollywood Reporter is sponsoring this multimedia event with demonstrations and martini mixers with producers from both sides of the computer.   The talent is diverse:  writers and actors, designers and producers, distributors and new technologies in a surreal landscape straight out of Barker's more mundane dreams.

For Barker, it's a chance to stretch the imagination.  “We are inventing this as we go along....there are no rules, or if there are rules, fuck them!”
